Help your child be on their way to their best behavior with a modern-day manners camp for kids 7-11 years old hosted by Carl Sandburg College’s Corporate & Leisure College.

“Don’t Slurp Your Spaghetti: A Modern-Day Manners Camp” is a two-day summer camp devoted to making learning manners fun and is facilitated by a certified children’s etiquette consultant. The camp takes place from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. July 27-28 in Room C102 on Sandburg’s Main Campus in Galesburg, 2400 Tom L. Wilson Blvd.

The camp will cover several topics, including:

  • Conversation: Speaking without interrupting and how gossiping hurts
  • Friendships: Secrets to making and keeping good friends
  • Telephone manners: Answering a call, leaving a voicemail and telling, not yelling
  • Going places: Displaying exceptional manners in public
  • Sportsmanship: Respecting your coach, the officials and cheering on your team
  • Thank-you notes: The art of writing a thank-you note
  • Table manners: Setting the table, napkin placement, posture and passing food
  • Dining tutorial and dress-up day: Eat a four-course meal of spaghetti and meatballs, salad, breadsticks, dessert, lemonade and water

The cost of the camp is $40 and includes a pizza party on the first day, the tutorial meal on the second day and a certificate of completion for each participant. Masks will be worn at all times, with the exception of lunches. Availability is limited, so reserve your child’s seat by July 12.
